I have an old dry sink, that took me ages to strip the layers of paint (well, strip MOST of the paint....still haven't gotten it all :) ). It had three basic eras: most recent creamy whitish, middle mustardy yellow, oldest loads of brown something.

My Plan A was to strip to bare wood and clear stain/finish on it. My Plan B was to strip enough to get a decent surface to paint it.

I am now on Plan A 2.0. I am wondering if I could use some type of tung or linseed oil type of product on the dry sink when there is still some of the original finish remaining (it's brown, not sure what it is, but it is OLD). Would the oil type finish not work because there is brown whatever still on the wood??
