Draperies and electric heat vents

I want to install some blackout draperies in our master bedroom. Unfortunately our electrical heat vent sits at the bottom of the main window in this room. Ideally for aesthetics, I'd want the drapes floor to ceiling, but then they would block the vents. Should the drapes stop above the vents? There would be a 6" gap from drapes to floor.

You need outside mount blinds as the first layer. Anything else after that should steer clear of the heater.

The problem is not that they would block the heat, the problem is they would be a fire hazard. Curtains or any fabric need to be at least 10" away from electric heaters. Short curtains aren't very nice looking. You're better off with some shades or blinds, both safety wise and looks.
