If they're hardy to your zone and they're not in unseasonable active growth, nothing is required. However, you can potentially get a bit more top growth if you want to cover, if not frost every day.

where did the plants come from??

if local.. i wouldnt worry about it ...

if they were shipped in from warmer zone.. very recently ... then i might cover them .. as best you can ...

it mid sept.. if not tonight ... then it will be soon enough ... they may as well get ready now ...

i highly doubt anything will die due to such ..

and you are moving them for next year.. so focus on next year... and what will be.. will be ...

one thing for sure.. if you have houseplants out there.. get them in the house.. or in the garage for tonight ... this is about the time of year.. i used to dose all the houseplants with a systemic.. so they would come in the house.. without any bugs ...

Thank you, all! Michigan is tough, too hot to plant a few weeks ago, now getting too cold. Same in the Spring, first too cold to plant, then bam, all of a sudden, too hot. Only a few good weeks a year for planting. I'm fine if the flowers shrivel up, as long as the roots are alive and continue to establish themselves underground. All of these plants are local.

I have potted mums out for seasonal decoration, on my porch and by my mailbox. Those will be coming in tonight!

i would make sure to get them back out.. as soon as possible in the morning... you dont want to baby them too much ...

i went all wimp.. and put the heat on this morn .. lol .. 34 out here in tecumseh ...

i think the mlive weather dude suggested in a few days.. we will be back to more normal fall temps ...

No need to worry about mums for just a frost advisory.

They should be fine, they're perennials. The ground is still nice and warm -- the foliage may look a little worse for wear if it gets nipped, but the roots will be down there doing their thing.

I ended up covering my new bed with a tarp, not taking any chances! Mums were babied as well.

Ken, I put the heat on this past week! It was down to 66 degrees in the house one morning - no thanks! I hate being cold.

HAHA yep! I've had the heat on too. Ironically, being outside in the cold doesn't bother me much, if at all (properly dressed for it, of course), but there's something about being inside a cold/cool house that is just different, I can't stand it -- I am heat-cranker.
