@jck910 Thanks for the reply! Our house is 15 years old and has an open kitchen which opens into the family room. If we add crown molding to the family room, we will have to continue to the kitchen. We are going to paint our house and replace the baseboard with a bigger one. At the same time we are thinking of adding crown molding. Here are some pics of the kitchen and family room.

I don't think you need to add crown molding. There are too many sections where it won't really have any impact.

I agree, especially since all those curtains are so close to the ceiling. I see only one wall where you would really notice it. The kitchen definitely doesn’t need it.

The house was not designed for crown molding. You would have to totally redesign it to make crown work.

Sorry, but molding can be put in the kitchen. I'll post a pic a minute.

As for curtains, just lower the rod after molding is installed. Molding will add

to much to your home.

Thanks for all the replies. Here are the pics from the other side of the room. So we will have the section above the tv where the crown moulding will be visible and the other walls below where it will be visible.

I don't know about "impactful," but it looks like sort of a nonsense combination with the other features of the house. Do you have a super-traditional decorating style? Because crown makes most sense in a traditional house with lots of other woodwork, while your house looks more contemporary, has unframed openings, etc. Seems like money misspent to me.

Not sure how anyone can tell the style of the home with a few pictures. Crown would look very nice in there. It does not have to be the size you are suggesting as there are many sizes at your disposal. You only have one kitchen cabinet that goes to the ceiling and as you see in Angel's post - it looks very nice with crown molding installed. As far as the curtains, they can be lowered - I would never base a crown molding decisions on the height of curtain rods.

If you want the crown - then get it.
