More pictures from different angles, room size, and budget are needed. Is the man going to do anything other than sleep there? Is a work space or lounging/reading space desired? Are those weights on the floor?

Additional pics added! Would like to keep the budget near $1000 for key items: rug, bed frame, accent furniture. This will be just a bedroom and lounging / reading space. There are weights on the floor...so occasionally will act as a workout room too!

If that were my room, I'd forget about fitting the rug under the bed, but place it in area in front of the closet to warm that area up and make it more inviting, maybe with a small loveseat or a couple of comfy chairs (or one). Don't skimp on size, though, I'd want it to fill most of that space, over to the bed.

Even bachelors have opinions. What are his favorite colors? What sort of guy is he? Outdoorsy, Traditional, Gamer, Skater/Surfer, etc. What sort of music does he like? Country, rock, hip hop, alternative? Those clues can help figure out the aesthetic to go for.

He is outdoorsy and likes the wilderness, woodworking, camping etc but not like surfer/skater/extreme sport type. He is into all types of music. Style is more traditional...I've been trying to pull from the things he likes to decorate with but there aren't really any obvious hobbies or passions that stand out as a clear starting point. Lives in NYC so I'm maybe going to try to pull in art based on the city or use artists from there. Favorite color is blue!

heres an idea... white duvet, white sheets, navy quilt at end of bed, two fur accent pillows, black and white art, metal platform bed, blue metal side tables, navy and brown rug. bringing in white in bedding will help lighten the room

If he could move bed over a bit toward the closet, a rug could be centered more. But either way, he could just get a larger rug.

And he could add another lamp on other nightstand, but he does not have to, of course. I think a lamp like this would give him more of a rustic/industrial + masculine feel.

And he could add some blue to what he already has in bedding.

Art is a very personal thing. Whatever he likes. A framed poster or posters. If he wants a painting, Etsy.com is a good resource for all kinds of art, including original paintings.

Will he watch TV and read in bed, or in a chair in front of the TV?

Could be good with retro shapes in lamp base, etc..... retro art?

This is very inexpensive rug but durable indoor/outdoor rug. You could add fluffy white rug at step out for leaving bed.

I would move the dresser closer to the windows and move the bed closer to the closet.

It would make a better area for relaxing near the windows and the bed more convenient for dressing and using the bathroom.

Rug in front of closet as mentioned. Headboard up against the window. Wall of curtains behind bed to disguise how not centered that window is.

With the TV as is it isn't being watched from bed so does it really need to be there? I would put the dresser on the other wall with a chair across if TV watching is a thing in that room. That way from the doorway the chair is seen not the TV wires.

Wow thank you all for these recommendations! I'm so appreciative of the pictures and idea boards. Based on what I'm seeing, I think I'm going to start with purchasing one of the more modern bed frames from wayfair that a couple of you linked along with an accent chair. It looks wrong because the eye likes balance. Center the bed on its current wall. It is so off balance so close to the window with a massive open unused space as you come in. Use night stands and lighting Both sides of the bed. I would consider using his dresser as one night table on the closet side. Dark wood is fine and masculine for a bedroom. And a desk on the other side near the window. Keep a walkway open from the entry door to the windows. I would look for a different headboard. Something solid wether wood or upholstered. Not having a footboard will help the space feel more open. Find something he really likes and pull the colors for the room from there. Wether it's a rug, bedding or art. If I want my husbands I put on our space I usually find a couple things I like first and let him make the final decision. He usually doesn't care and leaves it to me but if it his room too he should have some say.

You said brighten, also rustic .... with current bed possibly, the camel or green? - could add wood table to blend with dresser.

There are literally 1000s of pics of adult male bedrooms on line we have no real info. I do not think an adults bedroom needs to emobrace their hobbies like you do with a child. Some nice art that he chooses would be good this is one of the 1000s Maybe get him to look at some to see where his head is I find male clients have notions thye just seem to have a hard time expressing them As for colors I look in the closet. and it also gives you sme clue as to their style.
