Drastically different foundation repair quotes

In the process of buying a home in the Dfw area. During the normal inspection it was brought up there was some evidence of foundation movement and settling. House was built in 2005. We got a bid from a foundation company recommended by our agent. They want to do 37 piers! across the front of the house and in the garage itself. $21,000

seller got their own bid from another company And they want to do 13 piers at a cost of $5,900.

it’s concerning the two bids are so drastically different. I’ve attached the two bids. Tomorrow I am hiring an engineer coming to do another assessment and hopefully give me input on the two bids. curious if y’all had any thoughts on the drastic difference in bids?

Your bid is $568.00 per pier, their's is $454.00. That's about a 20% difference. I'd have your engineer state how many he thinks are needed and negotiate from there.

get a 3rd bid. Those are drastically different in amount of piers needed.

Is this house on slab, crawl space or does it have a basement? I'm guessing, if it's on slab, the piers underneath in the middle would be more expensive. Do you really love the house?

Yeah it’s a slab foundation. Front is 3.5 low at the max. We do really like the house and the seller is willing to pick up the tab for the cheaper bid. Just wondering if it’s sufficient.

well an update for anyone that cares, we hired an engineer and he said the bid that only had 13 piers was "a joke". seller wouldn't pay for the other bid so we terminated the contract.
