Take it all out and just leave the TV there and that will aslo allow you to get a bigger TV if ever want to.

What do you have? What do you love? Do you love books? Put your favorites in the cubbies. Do you have pictures of the family that you love? Sports memorabilia? Collectibles? Your grandmothers tea cups?

Styling a home is for pictures and staging. A family room should be about the family that lives there.

In the interim of doing something like that, any suggestions?

I think it’s going to feel cluttered unless you use like items..pottery finger bowls, small wood boxes are two ideas

I would definitely leave some of them empty to avoid a cluttered look. Also the items should be big enough to fill the space...in other words no miniature things that can’t be seen. Have fun with it. It’s a lovely room.

Also, staying within a color scheme will give a more cohesive look. I see you already have some blue items up there. Stick with that color and maybe one other complementary color.

Beverly has a good idea. These little nooks are meant to be filled (not left empty) to create a space of visual interest. Having one similar object in each cubby is a great way to accomplish this, as long as you like looking at the items chosen. In other words, don't choose something JUST to fill the space, but carefully chosen objects that appeal to you and form a collection will have a nice impact.

I'd make it look as cluttered as possible. One person's "clutter" is another's quilt with a beautiful pattern. I have a collection of photos of my closest friends who are like family, in a collection of unique and pretty frames. I'd put one of the frames in each box shelf. You said it yourself, "Brady Bunch." I'd smile with that memory every time I looked at it. OR, I would display one of my beautiful collection of Japanese porcelain pieces in each square. OR as I usually do, fill up all the spaces with books . . . I would certainly not go out and buy more junk just to fill up the space though. Shop your house, see if you have some beautiful or memorable things to put in the spaces that you want to take front and center . . .

Ida and Pink Mountain. I couldn’t agree more about making it personal vs going to buy more “filler.” Goodness knows there’s plenty of that already around the house!

I think the frames are fine and obviously mean something to you with the photos they hold. That said, I can understand wanting a change. Keep "shopping around" in your house and you might hit upon some things that look new and fresh to you there. Most importantly, just have fun with the process. There's no right or wrong here.

Hi, ive finally gotten a few pieces. What do you think? What should I put on the top shelf?

I would put the bowl on the top shelf, centered. Take the items in the "middle" shelves - the grayish items - and put them on the shelf where the bowl currently sits. Group the three items on one side, and stack books on their side on the other side. I don't think the glass piece with light blue sand{?} fits and would remove it. Fill the other small cubbies by placing one piece of white pottery in each, much like you have done in four of the cubbies already.
