Structural support of carport

I have a 18'x18' carport. Unfortunately it has 2 metal poles supporting the main joist in the ceiling. I want to open the carport for my wife to park in it.
I was thinking of putting 2 4"x6"x20' span across the top to support the weight and remove the metal post.
What do you guys recommend?
