Why don't you repost this as a design dilemma? Your pix are in poll/voting format and there is nothing to vote on; you're wanting advice, not votes. Since this may be a harsh transition for you, it may be best to live there over the winter and see how the house functions for you and how your furnishings fit in. Then come back next spring with specific issues you've found annoying during the winter months. The kitchen looks like it should function well as laid out, and if it does, then all you'll have to do is decide what would make it esthetically more pleasing to you. Turning the island 90 degrees could open things up, but then you're into dealing with the flooring. It may not be as bad as you think, so wait, live with it, and analyze how it works vs. how you wish it worked/looked.
