Upholstery cleaner for S fabric

I have a beautiful white cotton twill chair that I’ve had for over a year (and another on the way.). I was under the impression that cotton upholstery is easy and low maintenance and I was WRONG. The upholstery is “S” for cleaning and I have a kit from the furniture company that didn’t work at all. I took a chance and removed the cushion covers and machines washed them and let them air dry and the fabric came out fine and wasn’t discolored and still “matched” the body of the chair just fine. However, the body and arms of the chair are looking a little dingy (family and pets). I’ve been able to spot clean with dish detergent and water. But how do you safely clean everyday dinginess? I can only find info re: spot cleaning...not an overall refresh from life’s dirt.
