It's a patented plant so asexual propagation is prohibited. But like all sumacs, it does sucker, maybe not quite as rampantly as most but it should still sucker. If it were mine, I'd have no compunction about removing or relocating any suckers I might find.

I have removed few suckers last year. This week though, I was thinking of how I can make my garden more beautiful and the first thing I thought was my sumac. I'm going outside and see if there are suckers. It's really beautiful. Thank you!

I would wait to dig up/transplant suckers until they're dormant. To be honest, I'd wait to do that next early spring.....

I agree that this is a marvelous plant. I have it next to a blue conifer and it is a swoon-worthy combo in fall.

When I've transplanted suckers, I've removed dirt to find the "mother" root where it came from, and try to backtrack that root to get dug out as much of it as possible. A root sprout prb'ly won't yet have a spreading root crown under it, so won't have much root "support" if you just dig it out from a circle around the sprout.

Got it. I'll transplant it in early-to-mid march. Dirt will be soft while the plant is still dormant. I'll do it the same way I've transplanted baby catalpa trees. The sucker on my picture is about 10-12 inches tall and about close to 2 ft in diameter.
