What style pulls or knobs ? I use Lee Valley almost all the time so maybe start there.

Go with an gun metal or aged iron finish instead. A lot of matte flat black hardware has a plated or painted finish that I've found tends to wear off! Consider this one....I sell this a lot! It looks more black in real life than the photo.

I do not recommend matte black hardware for things that are touched and used. It will always have cleanliness appearance issues. The finish does not last either, unless you go pretty high end.

@lucky998877, just found your comments as I'm looking for matte black hardware. I've found a lot I like but they all chip (I'm testing out different knobs and intentionally nicking them with a screwdriver to see if the color chips off). So far so not good. I'm heading over to Top Knobs to take a look. Also... what color are your cabinets? They look lovely.

I purchased black matte from Schoolhouse, Riverwood knobs and Greenwood pulls. I chose Schoolhouse, because I prefer matte black hardware that is not so chunky. The Riverwood knob, while only 1' diameter, protrudes out more than most other knobs I've seen, so when opening and closing doors there is less contact with the cabinet. The Greenwood pulls have squared edges, that I wasn't so sure about, but I like the tactile feel now. So far, I love them and have had no problems with chipping, scratching or cleanliness issues, but it's been less than a year. I think that if the hardware were to ever get damaged I could easily refresh with spray paint, although that would be a temporary fix, which I could possibly do on occasion.

My opinion only, but I think the matte black may be a short-lived trend. I like the gun metal finish mentioned above. I had gun metal in my last house that I built 27 years ago and it still looks 'modern' today. Of course if you love it, you should go for it.
