Given the very colonial look of the home, grids really are a must have on the front of the house. That said, the back appears to have a nice wooded view and we go "gridless" on the back and side of the home all the time. Depending on the products that you go with, some folks may not be able to make a casement in the window opening sizes that you have in some of the locations and while I like the casement as an operator, the interior screen is kind of a PITB sometimes and I don't care for the look. There are retractable screens, but that is an expensive additional item charge usually.

There is nothing cheap looking about no grids but IMO the house does not suit casement windows and get rid of the shutters if you want a bit more modern look I think bronze would be nice.

Thanks for the comment. The idea behind casement is, they perform better and putting in a simulated check-rail makes them look like a double-hung window. The best of both worlds IMO. Does that change your thoughts?

While they are going to be slightly more airtight than DHs (some DHs are quite air tight though), they are a more complex and, usually, a more difficult operator. If your windows are leaking air, I wouldn't fault the operator type as much as an older, new construction, window.
