kitchen renovation

Hey guys , we are renovating the kitchen ( current pics attached ), going to level the island and put a narrower wall cabinet at the end ( which aligns with peninsula). Rest of the layout would be the same

Unable to decide on cabinet paint color
though, something that would go with my existing flooring. We are trying to give a modern feel to the home ( as much as possible :-) ) and don’t really like the current oak cabinets so decided we are going to go with the paint route ( would hire a pro ). We don’t like white / plain gray but would ideally want something on the lighter side. I was suggested “ sw amazing gray” by my painter - it’s a greige color and weseem to like it ( attached a pic of a inspiration kitchen painted with this color )...but I not 100%sure how it would go with my kitchen . Any suggestions ?

Am planning to go for a waterfall countertop on the island ... preference was something on white with a little bit of beigish markings but we also liked floor and decor sakura white granite ... going to go to a few shops this weekend for stone picking. Please suggest a countertop which would go with your suggested paint color . We are looking for inspirations and have an open mind.

Also wanted to ask about whether it’s worth to go for a mitred edge ( thicker look ) on just the island ?... I have attached a pic on what I envision my island to look like ... looking at options to paint it a dark shade and contrast with the lighter main cabinet colors.

Beth - followed your advise and we finalized a countertop ( attached pic)

In your feedback above there is dark bluish gray cabinet ( above Knoxville gray pic )... would that go with this countertop ? Should I go with dual tone wth dark bottom and light upper

here's Knoxville gray on the chip

on this particular pic, it leans more blue

If you want blue, here are some others.

what I'd suggest is take off one of your doors, prime it, and paint a few of the paint samples you like on it. then take that to the stone yard w/you and see what works w/your slab and your flooring. You'll have to hold up samples next to your flooring

(what's the name of your stone? )

With that stone, I'm thinking some of these others might work. hard to tell from your picture.

Go to the stone yard and take a pic of the slab in good light, with a camera. (or wait until you paint some samples on your door and go back) So we can really see the coloring.

Just not sure how these colors will work w/your flooring.

It’s Bluzonite from Arizona Bluzonite is a creamy white granite with areas of taupe and grey veining throughout. There will be feldspar crystals in light blue tones dispersed randomly throughout the slabs as well as black biotite crystals scattered throughout. During the polishing process, an epoxy resin is applied to the surface of the stone to fill in any natural pits, cracks or fissures that may exist. This does not affect the durability, maintenance or beauty of the stone. It is possible for some of the more minute pits that are too small to effectively hold the resin, to reopen during other finishing stages. However, this will not detract from the overall quality or appearance of the stone. Due to the qualities of the stone, the slabs are book-matched; meaning slab one and slab two will be cut and polished to create a mirror image of each other. These are then kept in sequence, which allows for a consistent flow in pattern. Finally, a mesh backing is adhered to the back of the stone to ensure safety while handling and fabricating the slab. As a natural stone product, it is recommended that it be sealed to extend its longevity.

never heard of it. I'm sure they renamed it . resembles some of the Alaska White granites

    could also be Galaxy white

it has those blueish crystal deposits

Still need to see closer pics of it w/paint samples.

go back up to my comment. I added more pics and what to do.

Beth - I was referring to this one, is this Knoxville too ?

Since my flooring is honey oak I am wondering if I should do a Alabaster on my cabinets and then a dark espresso on just the Island ...

We are going tomorrow to the granite store with our cabinet samples which we painted ...

We tried amazing gray , agreeable gray , gray screen and alabaster so far ) none are very convincing so far as we were not super big fans of white and grays to begin with but trying to see if it fits our kitchen

Since our kitchen is on the smaller side we are thinking that dark colors would make our kitchen look darker and smaller — is that a right thought ?

Thanks Beth — since my flooring is honey ok — should I be sticking to warm and neutral palettes ?

That one actually looks like gentleman’s gray. It’s not Knoxville.
Alabaster will be fine, but it is a softer, warmer white.
Make sure your bulbs are all 4000k temp. Anything smaller and it gives off yellow hues. So change those first and then bring in paint samples.
Honey oak and blues work just fine. You just have to watch the undertones.
I’d advise you to pick your stone first. If it’s that one in the pic, I think it’s really called Galaxy White. Looks like it from what I can tell. It has some taupe tones to it which should work with the oak.
Get the samples of the paint colors you like and try them on a piece of primed wood. Take that to the slab place so u can see how it looks. ( unless they can break you off a piece ).
You can also wait and have it installed and go from there. When they come out to spray your cabs, they’ll cover the countertops.

The Houzz app isn’t working from my desktop where I have all my pics, so I’ll have to try back tmrw. I’m on my phone app and will try snapping a pic of galaxy white so I can see it.

I think your kitchen is open enough to carry a darker color. Kitchens look dark because of poor lighting. So if u need more lights install some more cans with the 4000k LEDs.
I’ll post some other pics as soon as the site comes back 100%. Check tmrw.
I like two tone kitchens. I’ll give u some examples

Yes my countertop looks similar to this galaxy white , I am visiting the stone place tomorrow with some painted cabinets

We are taking amazing gray , alabaster and a cool tone gray “ gray screen “... hopefully one of them would work 😊

Thanks Beth , I am wondering if a combination of Amazing gray and a very dark brown ( like the one you had in your last post with the galaxy white countertop ) would work

    Below is my kitchen plan

My lights are really super bright

GB - I’d love to see pics of your kitchen. I too am leaning towards Bluzonite and would love to see it.
