If you search compact laundry rooms, you will see several similar size rooms. To maximize storage, looks like a stacking w/d would be best and have the dryer vent moved over.

Since you probably wouldn't make noise doing laundry at night when guests were sleeping, you could save the door swing space by using a sliding barn door on the exterior of the laundry.

I have been doing searches but I figured I would ask in case there were any really good ideas I missed.

@kayozzy - that last pic is what I figured I would I end up doing. Seems a bit cramped but maybe I just need a bit shallower.

@decoenthusiaste - drop down doing rack is a good idea. I was think in of how to do like a rail or something but the rack is probably better

That's probably the one I'd pick, too with a skinnier base cabinet than normal. I like as much open space as possible. It's nice you'll have windows, that will really help it feel open. The other option is to do cabinets above and a countertop over the washer and dryer and leave the rest of the space open.

I changed my laundry to a different design, but originally my cabinet guy was going to build my washer and dryer up on bases which would open up (can be a cabinet or a drawer) which could store 2 baskets or whatever you would like. This also allows your washer and dryer to be a little higher so it is at eye level and you don't have to bend over as much. Only reason I changed it was because I wanted to accommodate more baskets. Mark has the best idea! And if you did not want more cabinet counter space, you could simply have a closet built into that corner next to the door. Less expensive than cabinets. Good for a vacuum, brooms, mops, etc. That's what I am doing in my laundry room.

I will also have a long folding shelf with a hanging rod above, and hamper area below. But my door is centered in the middle, so I have room on both sides to utilize.

Can you relocate your door? Mine is also a swinging door. Easy to push open when my hands are full with a laundry basket.

I like the idea of drying racks. I am purchased a hanging rack from Amazon to use over my laundry sink. That way really wet items can drain into the sink (I sometimes hang linen shirts, sweaters, and pants straight from the washer. Look up "Wall Mounted - Retractable Clothes Rack."

Also think how you'll use the room. Many people envision folding laundry in their little laundry room and cram in an island (if there's space) etc, only to end up folding clothes in their family room etc where there's a TV and a view.

If you iron clothes a lot, a wall unit is awesome. Some only steam. Some people refuse to learn how to do either lol

Or a fold-down shelf to use for folding and then it gets tucked up against the wall when not in use--similar to a drop-down desk.
