Determining heat loss through a slab question.

I'm installing a hydronic heating system for my lower level but it isn't a in-slab radiant floor. I've calculated heat loss based on my area's outdoor design temperature but unsure of the delta t for the slab, and what I've read many aren't sure either, and has something to do with isotherms in the soil that will complicate the heat loss. In the dead of winter I measured the temp under the slab at the edge and got 50 degrees, 48 inches below grade (it's a split level). Should I use 50 degrees, 32 degrees because it's below frost level, or something in between? The difference to me is $500 for an additional radiator.

My heat source will be a induced draft low pressure copper tube hydronic 40K BTU input boiler, and will supply only hydronic panel radiators in the lower level as a separate heating system from the upper level, which is forced air. It will also heat a indirect water heater with priority. I have no desire or intentions of digging up the slab to insulate or raise the floor with insulation.
