Perennials Lilies Bulbs

Proper depth for tiger lily bulb planting

Yesterday I planted some 1.5 yr tiger lily bulbs raised from bulbils and I planted them about 6-7 inches deep. I know that is the recommended depth but when I actually look at the bulbs in the soil that deep(I used measure tape to measure too) it looks so deep that I’m starting worry they might rot. Do Tiger lilies really like being that deep?

how big were the bulbs ... fully mature??

the usual general rule is 2 to 3 times the size of the bulbs ... so if you have a 2 inch bulb.. 6" sounds about right..

if you had an immature one inch bulb.. 3 inches sounds a bit better ...

you have horrible clay.. right ... wonder if that makes a difference ...

Not exactly sure about size but they weren’t more than a couple inches. They are 1.5 year old bulbs. I‘ll dig it up and replant them
