Recessed lighting and a lightning rod.

For lighting you can consider general ambient lighting and more focused task lighting. I'd use recessed can lighting for both in your layout. 450 lumens at the counter surface is a spec for task lighting. Position the fixtures 6 inches/ 15cm. inward towards the wall from the edge of the counter. This puts good light on the material your working on without a shadow from your body. Led bulb fixtures are recommended. Two cans on a separate dimmable circuit can provide ambient lighting for the space.

For any space, layers of light are key. Start with recessed cans in each corner of the walkable work space of the kitchen, then add in 2-3 hanging pendants over the peninsula, depending on their size. Since you have a black hob in play, I would select pendants that have a bit of color, with a hint of black going through them to link the aesthetic as a whole.
