Fireplace design help

We are planning on adding a new wood mantel to the fireplace. We are wondering if anyone has any suggestions as what to do behind tv. If we do an accent just behind tv up to the ceiling should I remove crown molding? Take note that wall to right of tv is deeper than on left side.

I'd move the tv off to one of the sides.

doing the mantle and then the tv will make it too high.

that fireplace just needs some art above it.

what you have on either side is too much clutter. It's nice, but it's just too much. the small prints over each console and the crowded look of everything, the diff style of cabinets, I honestly think you could make this look dynamite with some reworking.

On the right it's set back which makes it perfect for a built in.

You'd be better off doing something like this

(on something like this, put the tv off to one side, not on the fireplace)

here's what your stone looks like when style properly. too bad you can't take it all the way to the ceiling

Thanks so much! Lots to think about. Any way you can provide me a link to the photo with the large white vase with green branches? Love the vase and branches.

You don’t have to remove the crown molding. In our master bedroom we built what is called an upper mantle. In the wall above the white mantle. The upper mantle stops several inches down from the crown molding. Originally we thought about putting the TV up there but decided against it and put the ship there instead with the TV off to the left on the shelf. I was really looking at your picture and you have so much potential there. However in my humble opinion I think that perhaps your TV is a little overwhelming above the fireplace. That’s why I chickened out, everything on our wall was white and then there was the big black box. Whatever you decide best of luck to you.

Put the tv over the shelving unit on the left, it will be a better height, for viewing, and tie into the black. Then you can out some statement art over your mantle and the room will wow.

Do NOT remove the crown molding. You can add a wood mantel, but you will need to move the TV. I suggest you set the tv on, or just above, a console cabinet to the left of the fireplace. Then hang a piece of art above the mantel. You don’t need an accent wall, but you do need some color: a few accent pieces, a soft lap blanket, a pillow or two.

Maybe moving the TV to beside the fireplace will work better for your room.

no link to the vase, but simple to copy. places like Pier One or Cost plus carry the sticks. the vase looks likes an Artisan type of pottery.

Loved all your suggestions. Thank you all. I actually started by decluttering and moving so stuff I already had on other places. I do think built-ins will be in our future at some point but too many other projects to do first. Making some progress...
