It would feel like walking into a dark cave. Not so good. And why paint the doors and ceiling also?

I want to blend in everything ..: I chose this color as I read an article saying if it’s a basement , it doesn’t matter the wall color is dark or light , it would look dark without artificial lighting ... ? I want to create a bold and classy tone

Every one of your inspiration photos has very high ceilings. At least start with just the walls and keep the ceiling and trim white. You can always paint the ceiling dark afterward.

Sounds like you have made up your mind for the most part. Be prepared for ceiling to feel low. Suggest going with your gut and painting it all and just repaint ceiling afterwards if feeling like a cave, but will be a harder paint job than vice versa. Keep in mind, decor choices will play a huge part as well in making it cozy.

Thank you . Yes I will use decor to pop up the colors . And yes , I’m concerned about the low ceiling and it may look lower with the ceiling painted. I’ve changed to another color as attached ? And hopefully it will look not as dark ? The first color I chose was really dark grey

Maybe try the darker color on one wall as a focal point wall and light colors on the rest.

you dont have much vertical space, but what about horizontal? What is the square footage, Is i the entire basement or just a small part of the basement? IF the former it will have a different feel vs if it was a small claustrophobic room.

You say you have good artificial lighting. Important for a basement when color is being used. I agree with earlier poster recommending white for the ceiling.

The linked video of our basement uses color to define separate areas within a a Great Room concept.

Seven foot ceilings feel low even in white. In any dark color, it would be oppressive, imo.

IMO - Too dark and it will look like a dark hole and will close in on you

Mid tones and dark mid tones will be better

I have always loved mid toned taupes for an air of sophistication

IMO a black hole but if you want it do it why ask us since you seem to have already decided. BTW all your inspiration pics are not basements.

We discussed with the renovation team again and we will test to paint just a little part of the ceiling to see how it looks with pot lights and wall lights that we will install . If it is very dark then we may not paint the ceiling . Also after gathering all your opinions , we have decided to use the dark color for just the living room ( as a theatre room) and a lighter color for the rest of the basement

Also I checked again . The height is actually 8ft for most of the basement

You should check out chrislovesjulia's blog post for their basement make-over. They painted everything super dark and dramatic, including doors and trim. It's stunning!

I like your idea with either dark color you are looking at. But I think a light color for the floor will give you relief you need.

My basement walls are dark. Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal and Benjamin Moore Grappa. The trim I believe is cloud white, and we painted the bookshelves white. I love it. Doesnt feel cave-ish to me. The ceilings are white, and they are quite low. 7ft I believe. Not much over my husbands head and he’s 6ft.

Could look great with the right lighting. Love the tan furniture, also navy looks beaut with lots of natural timber, eg shelving, table tops etc

@Lydia Lydia Hi! I know this is an old post but I need to repaint my basement with 7ft ceilings post small fire. We are planning to go dark blue and we are going back and forth bw a white vs blue ceiling. How did yours turn out? Any pics you can share?
