stairwell wall decor

Please advise decorating this blank wall. We are torn if we should wallpaper, paint, shiplap, or wainscoting.
Our original plan was to have some decorative antlers we ordered form Various vendors on Houzz but I’m not sure if will look hodgepodge cluttered and if we do that should we go over shiplap or paint? What color? It’s a blank slate and im having a hard time envisioning anything.

No to shiplap, wainscoting or wallpaper. I'm with Sammie's recommendation.

NO to antlers. And don't be in a hurry. When you see the perfect thing, you will know it. Artwork, fiber art like a framed vintage textile, a map of somewhere you love....

It is not necessary to fill every surface with stuff.

I'm with Sammie - your stairwell wall is a nice large space, which could support a lovely large piece of artwork, but it also looks fine as is. Be patient, and keep on the lookout for something that really speaks to you, but don't run out and buy any old big print just to fill the space.

Agree with everyone! Keep it simple with 1 large piece that speaks to you and relates to your life or the space. A collection of smaller things will look cluttered

Great, thank you so much for the advice! We are definitely going to find one larger piece of art. Dilemma two.... the newly finished basement. Not sure where to go with these heads...or how to fill that large blank wall. Also considered framing a Czech flag and a vintage US flag similar to what we did with the Norwegian flag.

Would one of the flags, or even 2 framed the same way be the pieces you’re looking for to hang in your stair well? Big & bold, & has impact! Just a thought. So about those heads...wow. This room looks like a multipurpose game room for kids & adults. I see 2 captains chairs - is there a table somewhere in the room? Wondering about wall above table. But, I’m looking at the wall bump out to left of tall cabinet across from bar. Is there enough space for a creative vertical arrangement of the heads on it? Not sure if there’s any danger with little ones in house if hung too low but the bump out looks like a natural room divider. Another thought - split them up & hang on both sides of window? I think I spotted snowshoes- looks like a companion to Norwegian flag - snowshoeing in the Fjords?😆

You could possibly try a gallery wall in one of the areas you are inquiring about.

My daughter in law and I went to Ikea and bought inexpensive Ikea frames and heavy Bristol board at a craft store. She printed some b&w pictures from their wedding and we cut the openings like below for a more modern take. you could add family or special vacation pictures for instance. They have a tall staircase and used three - just enough for impact without feeling busy.
