Yeah, don't cut or knot it. The best way is to grab it from the back side, but since you can't, you'll need to push it in. The easiest way would be to get pointy tipped tweezers (don't use rounded end ones) and then you can just grab the thread and push it in carefully. You can do a little at a time until it's all hidden. If you don't have tweezers like this, you can use a pin or needle and just try to poke it in the thread and push it underneath a little at a time.

curved needles Any place that sells fabric should carry a set of needles that have a curved needle that you can poke thru and pull the snag to the back. Under $4.

Or you could use a bodkin, better yet a knit picker.

Simplest: put the two ends of a regular sewing type thread through the eye of a needle. Insert the needle as close to the thread as you can. pull the offending cushion thread through the loop of sewing thread. Push the needle as far as you can away from the pull and gently pull it out to and through the surface. The loop of sewing thread will pull the cushion loop to the underside.
