It this a trumpet vine? I was shocked to see how substantial the trunks grow on this plant. This looks like an incredibly invasive plant and if you put it next to a building you should plan on it completely taking over every available inch of surface. Can it easily be trimmed or lifted off a part of the building where you do not want it growing? Are the vines destructive to the paint of a building? (As opposed to something like ivy, which leaves its marks no matter what you do.)

In terms of designs, where are appropriate places to put a plant like this? I want a flowering hedge in the middle of my back yard, to separate a patio from an open lawn area. Would it make sense to put in a fence and then let this grow along that fence line?

Can this be grown in a pot, or does this vine put out roots for many tens of feet around its base?
