With a fireclay sink - yes.

My mom’s sink has a grid and it annoys me to no end. I don’t really understand the point of having a sink that needs to be babied enough to have its own protective gear. So if it were my sink—I’d go without the grid.

I have one and love it , my last sink did end up with scratches from the heavy stove grates and bigger pots.

With a fireclay or enameled cast iron sink I think a grid is a necessity. I have a stainless steel sink and don’t think a grid is needed for stainless steel cause I don’t care about scratches in my stainless steel. And a grid is one more thing to have to clean, and they can accumulate gunk in the nooks and crannies. But fireclay can crack, so I’d have a grid with a fireclay sink.

With a large sink it is very nice to have a grid, so that you can set any hand-washed dishes to dry on the grid on the side of the sink and still use the other side.
