Need advice for range hoods.

My present microwave has bitten the dust so it needs to go. I’ve been getting picky about wanting to have good ventilation, so I’m considering going for an under-cabinet range exhaust.
I’m confused on some things, though. Exactly what is CSM and what number do you need? How far forward should the unit extend over the range? What would look good in my traditional looking kitchen?
Btw,the ventilation goes to the great outdoors. We have a flapper style vent on the brick wall outside of the house.
When we moved here 40 years ago there was a under cab exhaust, so it’s been done before.

Unless you already have make-up air from the previous ventilated hood installation, I'd go for 390 cfm (cubic feet per minute), which is below the limit for MU air safety code requirement in most areas--but check with your local code. Since you have an electric range, and it appears to be venting directly to the exterior, that should be sufficient.

Thank you mama goose. It didn’t occur to me to post in the appliance forum. So I guess since I vent directly outside, cfm doesn’t need to be so high.
