fall table runner

last modified: 5 years ago

I made this runner about 3 years ago and want to finish it for myself. I don't want to FMQ, because I really want this to come out well. I was thinking about hand quilting even. I have some fall variegated thread I could use. I was thinking of just straight lines lengthwise. Suggestions?

After posting this I had an idea. I've always wanted to try sashiko quilting. So I just watched some videos. One said to do the stitching before you sandwich, another was doing it sandwiched. Which is best? If you do it first, you still have to quilt it. For a table runner, should I even use batting?

I was thinking straight lines across - maybe different colors of thread - but that might be too much. Or I could order some graphite paper and put some leaves on it. Anyone knowledgeable about all this? Thanks.
