There is a downside to that many drainage holes.....they are very appetizing to fungus gnats

The upside is the extra holes act as root pruning pots and help to dry out the medium in pots indoors. When outdoors in summer the hose is real convenient, no drawback in that department of possibly having to water more.

bklyn citrus (zone 7B), have you ever tried Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) for fungus gnats?

Very nice bklyn. Yours too Dave. Mine have started to color up out in the desert as well. It’s time to start giving them away to friends and coworkers so they don’t all go to waste.

A surefire way to get rid of fungus gnats is to put a 1 inch layer of sand on top of the medium. Make sure the sand has had all the salt rinsed off of it before applying. The gnats cant get thru the sand to lay their eggs.

I've been using mosquito bits (with BT) and yellow stickies all over. Greatly Greatly reduced but not eliminated completely. I've taken to soaking some of the bits ahead of time when I water and adding a dash more on top of the soil each time. Since one flying gnat can lay 300 eggs...I'll just keep at the current program until they go outside
