Simply adding something as simple as a branch on the wall can be a nice complement to the stone that exists.

Lose the clock and if you really want help then post at least a picture of the space and please change the lighting all I see is yellow light that makes the FP look even worsr than it probably is. Change all the bulbs to LEDs 4000K then see what it looks like. I am never a lover of painted stone so IMO last resort. I love the branch idea for sure.

I would put a very large beautifully potted small tree or tall plant on the left of the fireplace and add a chunky wood mantel the length only of the fireplace above the fireplace box.

I'm not in favor of trees, plants or branches placed in a combustible location. Much will change when you upgrade the lighting, and when we see the fabrics/textiles you're using we'll have much better suggestions.

I agree with summgardners idea of adding a mantle. The stone is nice as is with some new lighting and styling. You could style something like this inspiration picture - it would be really beautiful.
