If you are looking for a white lighter than White Dove, then you are after something with a Value of more than 9.25.

If you are looking for a white which is less colourful, more neutral, than White Dove, then look for a White with a Chroma of less than 0.58.

You can use this list to create a shortlist, then test visually alongside your chosen work surface, in your space.

Where do I find that color wheel? When I zoom in I can’t read it. Is there one for Sherwin-Williams also?

Also, make sure you use paint that is made for painting cabinets, not just regular paint.

White Dove stands well on its own. It’s a frequent client choice when I do a color consult. Here’s some additional suggestions from past color consult clients. And you might consider a color other than white. Greiges, blues, and greens, are also quite stunning with your stone choice. Good luck!

PS, you should check out the Kitchen Cabinet Painting Experts group on Facebook. There’s a whole section that shows you how to assess if your painter is qualified to be doing your job. There are a lot of painters that do not realize that cabinets are a whole different animal than trim.

I love the tone of white dove, but was worried my counter wouldn’t “pop” enough with it, since it seemed darker to me. I felt I needed a bit brighter without too much yellow....but I also don’t want it to look stark either :/. Also considering pure white.

Remember that a room only can stand 3 visual stars. A hood. A cabinet color. A floor. A window. A sink. A ceiling treatment. The rest need to be willing to be supporting actors on the stage, or you get conflict.

Decide what is your 3 focus stars. A counter like that is best enjoyed *as a star* on a large island. It fades into the background as a perimeter choice. And has issues with seam matching.

I have a small galley kitchen, unfortunately no island, just a small penninsula I guess you call it, with a couple bar stools. I’m painting over maple cabinets and have warm britanica counter with greige colored longer subway tile backsplash already in place. The backsplash matches the veining in the counter. So I figured with my darker LVP floors, the white would look best. Just want it to look pretty soft , warm white without too much yellow or being too dark against the counter. Why is finding a white so hard 😞 I actually found the perfect white on a cabinet door at Home Depot, but nobody is able to match the color correctly. i’ve called the cabinet manufacturer and Home Depot and neither can give me the formula.

I did hire a Color consultant, and she came up with pure white. After having Sherwin-Williams make me a gallon, and I painted it on posterboard, I’m concerned if it’s too stark. Maybe it was just the sheen as they told me to get semi gloss, because they said their satin is more flat.

Pure White is a cold white, not a warm white. I‘m sure it does look stark with the rest of your elements. It would be not be on my list of recommended colors with your choices. 😐 I’m curious as to where you found your consultant? SW? A local designer?

Sam- what cabinet white paint color did you end up using? Was it a good match, do you recommend? I’m now in the same boat.
