New back entry door - odd frame width size??

Hi all,

Just finished the kitchen remodel and now in the process of replacing all kitchen doors and entrance ways. I have done many interior doors, so I want to give the back exterior door a shot...but I am pretty confused on measuring for the frame width. I'm replacing typical 1960's entry door and storm door combo with a single steel door. The one I want is an exterior door from Menards that comes in either 4 9/16 or 6 9/16 size...but my measurement seems to be more like...5 9/16? Not sure if I am doing this right, so I am posting pics. If I am doing this right, is there anyway to make this work? Thanks for the help!

I suspect that if you took the screen door and it’s frame off it would make more sense. It might still be over 4 9/16th because your house may have had thicker plaster and sheathing than a modern door is designed for. 6 9/16 will work fine, the face of the door gets installed flush with the interior, the brick Moulding moves out an inch or so.

Could it be that when going from two doors to one door, you need an altogether different door frame? Just a thought....

What is the outside frame of your door meaning the perimeter of your door

The door is 31 5/8 x 79 1/4. I do think I'll take off the storm door to help get a better idea. I didn't think about the exterior brick molding being close to flush from that point of view - like I said though, I don't have any experience with entry doors.

I get the size of your door but what is the perimeter? when your door is shut what is the dimension from the inside of the frame to the outside

Sounds like you are asking two different questions there? First you asked perimeter of door which is why I gave W and H - 2x and there's the perimeter. For the second question - Inside view once the trim is off has the frame as an inch thick. Outside is 2 1/4, guess because of brick molding? Hope I'm answering what you are looking for.

I'm not asking two different questions the perimeter of your door is the trim when its shut. I know the width and height of your door. Do you have two different door casing? You might have to keep the screen door.
