Don't let the edge of the house stop you from taking the patio further out. We had a patio that went beyond the edge of the house and my only concern was privacy with your fence that won't be an issue.

You haven't mentioned budget, you should price all options, be sure to include labor and all materials needed to make a base for stone and/or brick. Price could be the deciding factor.

Thank you vicki! Your reply is a relief, we want to expand to that side to have the space. We got a quote on both the big stone and small stone circled in the last picture. It is about $11/ sft. But the contractor cannot find the color we like except for those circled ones in the picture. But now i am concerned about the texture on the big stone. Any suggestions?

I would leave the current patio for the table & chairs & then create a linked paver patio for the firepit etc. There is something to be said for having a dining table and chairs on a smooth surface for sliding chairs etc. Also if you need any sun control, having a pergola over just the concrete patio would make sense. You don't want a pergola over the firepit.

If you like you can dye the concrete a stain to match whatever you select for pavers.

Thank you very much Beverly! I like your idea a lot! I think i will keep the current patio as you suggested and expand it with paver all theh way to the current bush line. Will the pergola make the area less open? Since it will cover the door to the house?
