Use fabric glue instead. No ironing.

I assume you are saying the adhesive I mentioned above is the thing to use? I'll attach a picture of the two edges that need to be brought together. I know I should cut off the frayed edges and then should I apply glue to both sides and lay one on top of the other? I don't think there will be a puckering problem by pulling them together as it's actually inside the small zip pocket area. Thanks!

If you're talking heat adhesive I think you're going to find it heavy going trying to get the adhesive to bond. I would use fabric glue and a strip patch- I doubt the manufacturers would have used much more fabric in the lining than was strictly necessary so you won't have much to play with once you trim the fraying and overlap the edges- plus if it's really tight it will put strain on the new seam and you'll be dealing with the same problem again further down the road.

You would not have been able to use that first suggested iron on for that. It will not take the heat needed to heat bond it. it will melt.

How about some old fashioned duct tape? Who is going to see it?

Duct tape would be simple that's for sure. I haven't gotten to that project yet.

If it's possible, turn it inside out, cut off the frayed edges, and whip stitch edges together. After it's sewn, cut a piece of fabric longer and a little wider than the torn section and glue in place with fabric glue. Let it dry before turning right side out. If you can't sew it, just glue the fabric strip over the tear.
