Those would be my guesses as well, although I believe #2 to be Corymbia calophylla.

Corymbia ficifolia is a far more common tree here.

^^ Further digging seems that is correct :-) I have been to SF numerous times but more when these trees would be in flower rather than fruit and I was just going by leaf appearance.

And in all my years of gardening and travelling/garden visiting, I have never seen - or smelled - a ginkgo in fruit. Virtually all ginkgos grown and sold here are males.

If they haven't cut it down a female at Western Washington University can be smelled about 300' away.

The South Park blocks in Portland have some mature female ginkgos.

I saw Ginkgo fruit first in Italy. Last year I saw it in my local park, indicating how our climate is changing. When the fruit rarely or never formed it didn’t matter to our 19thc park planters which sex tree they planted. But believe me, GG, if you smelled it you’d know about it.

DD says she doesn't recall any odor, so I guess they lucked out. :) They were wearing masks during their walk, but I told her the smell is so strong, a mask would not have mitigated the stench.

Perhaps she should get tested for COVID-19, since a lack of a sense of smell is one indicator.

I have seen people gathering the fallen fruits for culinary purposes.
