Paint help anyone?

First the lighting in all fixtures needs to be changed to LED bulb in 4000K there is no point in choosing wll color until she fixes the lighting.I alwyas suggest eople live in a space for a wahile before doing anything major in the kitchen , in this case first get a counter depth fridge in stainless for sure. The idea of the same floor in the kitchen is a good one but does the wood for the floors work with the wood of the cabinets? If not then maybe not a good idea unless willing to spend huge money on having cabinets painted. This is why living there before touching the kitchen is a good idea. As for wall color that is best chosen when your furniture is in place as everything you own has an effect on wall color . Maybe at least post a pic of the rug . Wall color is best chosen with sample boards placed all over to see what works in the whole space and that of course is done after move in. Whites are not that easy to choose sometimes they can have waht is called undertones that often come from the light and furniture in a space. I like Decorators White she might try that too.

She is actually changing all the fixtures. Living room ceiling fan will not have light. The walls are all currently a grey, she wants the right white.

Will she be painting the doors and trim? Does she know the color of the doors and trim.

She needs a white that works with these if she is not going to repaint those elements.

We will repaint the trim especially the little oak toe molding that matches nothing. All work will be done prior to moving in because this space is small 700 square feet with COVID she is working from home and has works her rental through December. Meaning a good opportunity to paint while empty.

Looking for the right white for her, all walls she is leaning towards chantilly after looking at atrium white.

The wood floors will work with the cabinets, it is the granite counter that needs to go

The kitchen counter is also something she very much wants to change. She claims to hate all the white granite options she sees on line. She would love soap stone (she says) but would settle for absolute black, however, it would make her tiny space appear dark. Any suggestions for counters that she has not considered?

Article below discusses Chantilly Lace by BM, if that is what you are referencing. There are examples of it up against other whites; doesn’t seem to have any pink. Highly suggest she test samples out in the space and see other recommendations In the comparisons.

In regards to the counter, I have a very small kitchen with black counters (as well as black lower cabinets) and it has not made the kitchen feel dark. Looks like the bright dining space could be off the kitchen and if so, that is a bonus as well. She may want to look at inspiration pictures and also suggest to her that backsplash can have a big influence.

Thank you for these photos this is what I need to show her. The counter space is not huge and with a nice white tile backsplash it could work. She is picking up BM samples we are just trying to narrow it down to the best three.

This is the light fixture she likes for the dinning space off of the kitchen. The space has all the windows is only 8 x 10 , but has 11 foot ceiling.

Tell her to look at stone remnants and prefab countertops. Hers is pretty small and she may have good option for a prefab. It’s very hard to suggest a paint without the proper lighting in place. If she has access to the condo, tell her to at least change the bulbs, as was suggested by Patricia. She also needs to get poster board and samples of the whites she is considering. Then she can easily paint at home and just put them up on the walls of the new place. SW Dover White should be on her list. A friend has a new wood kitchen and they painted all the walls white and love it. (They have dark wood floors too.).

Given that she will be painting the entire space including doors and trim she can choose what she likes. Chantilly is one of the whitest whites available and would be too stark for my taste for walls. I love it for trim, but it is very neutral, leaning toward a blue white, no real warmth and very, very white.

Sometimes when we look at whites we compare small samples we see things that are not true when you don't compare and have a full wall painted.

With her carpet I would lean toward a white with a touch of warmth. If she wants a clean white I would lean toward Cotton Balls or Simply White. She really needs just a touch of yellow in the white to not make it feel stark and cold.

For more a bit more depth and an even more inviting space she could go with SW Creamy or BM White Dove with a either matching trim or a brighter white trim. (Chantilly Lace choice tells me this is not the look she is going for).

I like Decorators white with blues and greens and grays, but not as much with the warmth of the cabinets and area rug.

We also see a lot of posts where new owners have gone a bit crazy and bought 28 different samples of white and tested them all with small samples, next to each other, on primed walls . . .

Get samples of Chantilly Lace, Simply White and Cotton Balls and paint 4 sheets of each color.

Then put the 4 sheets together and take them into different rooms, next to her carpet, next to furnishings she owns, next to the cabinets and even outside, look at them one at a time. See which gives her the best feeling when she looks at them.

Pick one without going down the rabbit hole of testing everything that is so tempting with whites.

I have similarly colored cabinets and Chantilly lace worked well in my home. Looks cooler in the North facing kitchen but warmer in my south facing rooms. I don’t regret using it in any of my rooms. But all of my lighting is also LED 4000k

Kelly Moore Whipped Cream is a lovely white.

Check the K value of the chandelier - looks like a 3000 K which will throw yellow light.

Thank you I will have her check, as a young single professional she is more focused on how she wants her space to look sometimes getting her to understand the details is not easy. I hope to keep her mistakes to a minimum

She likes my white BM distant gray, however, her floors are a warm reddish or cinnamon tone as are her kitchen cabinets. She loves clean looking space with an eclectic vibe. She bought this particular condo because of all the natural light being on the top floor and the building is Art Deco built in 1928. Sadly most of the vintage features have been removed, but it certainly does not feel like a space built in the recent decades.

You might do well to try some of the suggestions in samples from www.samplize.com.

My niece and her husband lived in Los Angeles and were moving to New Jersey. My sister and her mother in law peer picked the house that my niece and her husband bought. They didn't see it until they flew in for close, but they trusted their mom's to pick the best house for them.

Some of the young professionals just don't have the time.

Most of the independent paint stores have color consultants who can help her pick a white.

Jennifer gave you terrific advice. Based on the rug, a warmer white might be better. If you get (or make) samples of the suggested whites, it will help tremendously. It is hard to choose a color outside of the actual space.
