I think it's the siding. If you painted a pretty blue gray & replaced the door sconces with larger, modern style it would be a game changer :)

I'd start with the door sconces--they should be 1/4 to 1/3 the height of the door. I bet copper accents would look nice.

Would you paint the door? It looks like a black hole. I'm assuming the door is closed in the photograph?

Looks cute to me! Maybe striped or colorful pillows for the chairs? Maybe a brighter front door?

I agree it’s the siding that’s making it feel drab. I love the idea of a blue gray color with white trim. I think it would give it a Nantucket feel to the place. No, you don’t need to add shutters. Good luck!
