Changing door into master bath

We just purchased a new home and we have an issue with the master bath door. The door swings in towards the shower and because there is a return, it can only open about 110 degrees. It makes the room feel tight except when the door is closed. It doesn't seem possible to pocket because the wall is shared with the closet. Any ideas to solve this problem?

How about removing the door to the bathroom area completely and putting a door to enter the dressing area and let it go at that.

Thanks. We considered that option but we have a TV cabinet on one side and chair on the other. We might have to go that route if another option isn't revealed.

Maybe we can pocket the door to the dressing area?

There doesn't have to be a problem with putting a pocket door into a closet wall -- unlikely to have pipes or switches in the way, especially if you have it open away from the shower...

There are switches on the left (toilet) side of bathroom wall. We just added Elfa system in both closets on the wall shared with the bathroom, floor to ceiling. They are small closets with hanging on one side only.

A pocket door will loosen up the space in the closet and the bath....you do not show measurements but ..it is possible to have hanging clothes on both sides of the closet in a closet as narrow as 5’...all of which will be handy and accessible without the wasted space in the corners...if it is not necessary to center the door .....you could center the doorway on the sinks ,for instance...for a more inviting entry...

too late? Wrong wall are used in closets, door swing could have been changed. Live with it, or tear it up and pocket door the bath. Shouldn't have use the shared bath wall for the "elite" until all was thought out including door swing into the closets.

For now? Live with it. or move the door to the entry to closet area. .

A pocket is not the best selection for a bath entry. It's noisy to a fault in the middle of the night.

The closet is less than 5' wide. I think 53" X 71" so one side is what the closet people said we could have. It worked out fine. We have enough closet space since there are also reach in closets in the master. I agree the pocket door will free up space. I won't be rebuilding the bathroom so centering the door isn't in the cards but a good idea. Thanks!

Thanks Jan. We didn't design the house or have it built. I agree it has some shortcomings, namely the master closets and bath. We just want to make the best of what we have.

How about no door. Looks like you have enough "cushion of privacy" before the bedroom area, but I would put in a wall and door to the toilet if at all possible for a no door solution.

What about just moving the door frame to be even with the bathroom wall. Then it would be like any other door on a wall?

Consider removing all three doors and then installing a double door on the bedroom opening. Not all of these are the scale you need, but if you have to go the cheap route, consider shopping second hand for a single bi-fold door to refurbish and install.

Why can't you just move the door so it hinges on the bathroom wall, like it should?

I don’t like barn doors a whole lot, but a barn door on the bedroom side that slides behind your chair would be super easy.

Here are options mentioned previously. The new door to the closet on the left would probably have to be moved to the right if you have a chair in that corner.

Then add door in hallway to bathroom.

Or the other option as suggested, move the bathroom door so that it opens against the closet wall on the right.

I'm going to look into moving the door so that it hinges on the bathroom wall. I appreciate all the comments and suggestions and will consider them all with my contractor.
