These are all beautiful. Just be mindful of the danger they invite for little ones who like to climb.

Many locales will not allow them for this reason. If pulling permits or planning to sell someday you may want to verify before you use them.

Thanks for the advice. I will check with our building department. Any recos on another kind of railing that wouldn't be as thick and obtrusive as what we have now if we can't do the cable?

We are using a vertical cable with a streamlined metal railing. I don’t know the brand but we purchased it at the same lumberyard that sold us the TimberTech materials. They said the vertical cable was much more popular than the horizontal cable and much less expensive too.

Is the TimberTEch for your deck? Any thoughts on why it's more popular or is it simply because of price? What will you use for the railings and what will you use for the posts -- aluminum or stainless or something else? Thanks so much!

Yes. Timbertech Tigerwood for the deck. We used Mocha color Timbertech for some facing trim but would have preferred Espresso But out of stock. our TimberTech was in stock so went with it. It is not cheap but I suppose there are other more costly materials. (We thought of Ipe but did not want the maintenance.)

Our contractor liked TimberTech but told me to stay in their premium lines like Legacy. He liked Trex too. They use a lot of TimberTech around here (Ohio) because the factory is nereby. I think TimberTech/Azek branding is extremely confusing for those in the deck market. The two companies merged a few years ago and haven’t gotten their marketing organized IMO.

Railings are by KeyLink. Went with what was in stock that complimented house. (Not a lot of inventory.) Did not check pricing, just went with it. We wanted Vertical because I thought it complimented the vertical lines of the trees and did not appear to block the eye/view too much. Posts and rails are aluminum and in black. Again went with what was in stock. There are lots of colors.

also, you can see some short black posts sticking up and they are for the lower level of the deck. They haven’t installed the railings there yet.

I love my glass and metal railing we got the one with a top rail but I wish we had gone with no top rail and then it truly would have disappeared. We got ours at HD and it is now 13 yrs old ans still looks like new.

@Jay Inhoff I'm looking at the same decking for my yard - same color too. I'm in southern California. Do you happen to know how this grade of TimberTech/Azek retains heat in hot temperatures? We would be using it as a pool deck and I'm trying to find the best composite decking that will be barefoot friendly (although I know based on my research that most composite decks get super hot in the summer.)

SM, I do not know how this TimberTech Tigerwood would perform in Southern California sunshine. My contractor did say it would be warmer than our old wooden deck though, so that is a clue for you. 😊
