With heavy heart...... Should I just get rid of the orange daybed?

I like the idea and confidence of using the orange day bed. You can bring in other hints of orange in cushions for the grey couch, as well as the art you mentioned. Go big with the art! For the rug, make sure it is large enough though - the one in your photo of the room is too small. I have a similar couch to yours - same grey - have been using neutrals for a few years and want to inject some colour so recently purchased these fabrics (paisley from Fabricguru and stripe from the Fabricshop) - they’re really great resources with a huge range of fabrics and you can order samples before you commit:

Keep the faith - grey and orange are lovely together, you just need to bring in hints of the orange in other items 😀

I think it will be great! I agree rug is too small. Needs to be longer than the couch. Also everything seems to be pushed over too far towards windows. Your couches are gorgeous!

Something with both orange and grey in it would be my choice.

thought i would offer up a few ideas on a rug, pillow that links the grey and orange and a couple ideas for chairs. love the pop of orange you have in the room.

The couch and the day bed are both of he prettiest coolest things I’ve seen lately. LOVE LOVE BOTH!! That being said I feel like the room is swallowing both of them. I feel like the couch belongs in the master bedroom and you need a big sectional there. A plainer rug. The day bed can work in there. Move it away from the windows. Love the coffee and side tables you picked. This is an awesome space love it. And it’ll all come together amazingly

I think you can totally make the furniture you have work beautifully in the room. As a first, step. would you please try centering your sofa on the fireplace? Then, as has been suggested, move your daybed away from the wall so the corner meets with the sofa, as it does now.

Please tell us how many people will use this room and for what purposes. For example, will there be a tv in the room? If you have other furnishings or art that show your style, that is very helpful, too. Photos from every angle of your room (and views of adjacent rooms, if you can, will be best for helping others to help you.

Someone will be able to generate a great floor plan for you and show you options for room arrangements, traffic flow, rug size and furnishings you may want to add. Some like to start with art although not everyone takes art into consideration; art can stand on its own. Great to see your floor plan! Thank you! I know what designers will ask next is that you put in measurements for each “opening"--each section of wall, window, door, doorway and fireplace...and then the length, width, and height of your furnishings. An easy way is to take screenshot, print it, and write in your measurements, then take a photo and post it. (Hope that didn’t sound too obvious. 🥴 Forgive me, please; it’s hard to take the teacher out of me!)

My advice, before you go to the expense of the rug, is to find accent items (cushions etc.) you love that bring in the orange - then review again (assuming you’re going ahead with the tables too).

The TV table , coffee table & endtable would all work well right? (I might go ahead and order those if there are no big NO NOs )

Cushions are going to get a face lift when I buy some cushion covers. (I am still browsing through those at the moment)

I’m registering a big No, no, no! (Respectfully disagree with Sharon’s advice.) Thought I posted this earlier a.m. Don’t see it so I'll re-post. I have asked a designer who is amazing with floor plans--and everything else--to come look at your thread. Please wait for a plan before purchasing anything. 🙏🏻 Pretty sure most designers, including this one, would recommend buying area rug first! Or art. One of those, most likely area rug, could be your inspiration piece. But first you need a good floor plan. Please don’t rush to buy anything just because Thanksgiving is around the corner. Those tables may or may not be the best color or size, shape or materials for your room.

Also, please answer key questions:

1. How many people will be using room on regular basis?
2. For what purposes? reading? tv? games? music? conversation?
3. Are the sofa and day bed the only pieces you already have, or do you have any other pieces you would like to include?
4. Do you have a budget in mind?

Ok. Here are my concepts for your room. (measurements are off on fireplace wall but this is good start). To keep orange day bed you have to lessen it’s visual impact. So I reoriented the furniture so the sofa is focal point and using whites and off whites it is a accent not a big player. I added neutral swivel chair in a more textural fabric with nail heads. I used large square coffee table that is accessible to all seating to minimize additional tables. A garden stool could serve as drink table beside swivel chair. Large artwork over fireplace that brings some orange in along with the accent pillows on the sofa repeats tones of orange but softens the look somewhat. I used a geometric black and white rug to help tie things together. I think a fairly neutral rug is the way to go. I have some art I will add after lunch. This made me hungry!

One example of art. You can size for above fireplace. This subtly brings warm orange tones into space to integrate the daybed.

I agree with your uncertainty about the color... it is at odds with your existing color palette and ...the style doesn’t offer any cofortable seating...also agree getting a rug you really love is the right start... using that as your guide for color choices...also with your couch using something you can put your feet up on will be more inviting as well more comfortable if you plan on relaxing or watching tv...to tie the color to the outdoor space more... lime green may work

One other thought ....to center things better i would consider putting the tv over the fireplace...this would allow you to move the seating further from the windows ...allowing more of a view ...and more breathing space around the seating

Sort of centering the couch on the windows behind it will also add more balance to the room

Not blocking the window is a consideration for your outdoor furnishings as well...keeping in mind that it could add favorably or unfavorably to the view from inside your home as well

Art above fireplace and TV in nook. Guests usually don’t watch TV so I think putting the TV in the nook is fine. Watching TV from side is frequently done. Families stretch out on sofas to watch TV. But you have to decide. I would not use orange daybed in position you have it because it brings visual attention to it. A big, light throw could help minimize impact along with large wood coffee table. These are strategies that can help.

oh another thing!!! I have little ones at home., These glass top tables are they risky??

I like the long ottomans in front of long couches...kids love them and a tray that is moveable serves as place for drinks ..snacks for person seated in the middle of the long couch...with end tables serving those seated on the ends

The backless bench is the least valuable as seating ..just for “ looks”..against the back wall ...with a big piece of art over it would give kids another thing to crawl over and under

It would hamper the walkway...but would turn that wall into a focal point with enough impact for the open and bare space

I have always had glass coffee tables with 4 kids (3 boys one girl). As long as glass is “tempered” I find them more durable than wood that gets scratched and dinged up. I like ones where the glass has wood or metal framing. Never had a problem.

Another word on my layout. I always leave at least 3’ walkway space through rooms. Each square in the layout drawing is equal to one square foot. Your grouping, no matter the configuration, needs to “float” in this room closer to fireplace. Your TV needs to be sized to fit into the niche on a cabinet. Or mounted with cabinet below or wall mounted cabinet. With little ones I would maximize storage so would suggest a cabinet. From your post that the width is 5’-4” wide, I would try getting one 54” wide. You have to clear baseboards too. So you will need a little wiggle room.

When you say cabinet a built-in cabinet? Like the ones we have in kitchen?

No a free standing decorative cabinet that can house TV elements etc.

This would be so cool but it is too wide.
