Replace 45in electric cooktop

I want to replace a 45in electric cooktop without having to re-do countertop. My options are very limited when it comes to choosing a gas cooktop replacement that can be put in without any additional work. I have to go with a 30yr old model (Dacor 45in).

I read online that I can put a 30inch and a 15inch cooktop and use a trim to connect both. Is that possible? What are such trims called?

Is there any other option to reduce the cutout size without replacing the countertop

You'll have to measure the countertop cutout and determine how much space is available below the countertop to see if any replacement will fit.

I'd consider filling the 45" cut-out with black quartz or some other material. Then, freedom! You can choose a 30" or 36" induction electric cooktop. They're solid black. This is likely to not look so bad in the larger black 45" fill piece. But more than looks, you get very high quality performance. Bosch, Miele or Frigidaire for an induction unit.
