My thought is that either shelves or art would look good. That spot definitely needs something. Art is one dimensional & perhaps view of it from kitchen limited by cupboard? Shelves I think, might visually expand the space. You’d need to determine depth & make sure lowest shelf doesn’t feel blocking or looming over someone sitting on stool closest to them. Also assume due to location the shelves would hold decorative items only since reaching over the peninsula to grab things not feasible. Agree with eld161 that shelves do not need to be flush with cabinet & I don’t think they should be - float them away. Maybe they don’t need to be lined up either? Lots of options on size of each & spacing. Live edge might be nice - seems compatible with your finishes & stools.

i think the shelves would be perfect. was going to suggest the exact same. (I just wish you would have taken your tile all the way to the ceiling! even around the door frame) Your tile is gorgeous w/the new countertop. Nice choices.

you might consider doing a small pendant above your shelves

CKyle....you're ordering from Etsy? you know you can go to a lumber yard and get a piece of cherry (like 7" deep) and make your own? it's really easy. I did it w/my walnut shelves. cost me $45.

If you put a shelf there you will lose the ability to sit in the third stool. The shelf will be right at eye level, sticking out. I'd use art there instead.

I think I would leave well enough alone. you have inserted two areas of glass doored uppers. I don't see the need and its a bit of an awkward spot to reach. One or two things in the category of art or a clock/ something along those lines....much better.

The sink doesn’t look centered with the window, is that right? If it’s not, I would not use a pendant there. Art on the blank wall would be my choice, perhaps a textile?

Cherry ages to a rich mellow look. New raw cherry will not match. Art is the better option.

It doesn’t seem like the window is centered with the sink or light so I would not hang a light there, but I would change out the “Boobie” light on the ceiling.
