Anything exciting coming in spring?

Even though my hosta seemed to “sleep” this year (I hate tree roots but I love my trees) I had to add a few...

WuLaLa

Abiqua Moonbeam

Jack of Diamonds

LS Shoremaster

Marbled Cream

And if available

Arc de Triomphe

Diamond Lake

Deep Blue Sea

How about you? Anything in particular you’re excited about?

I also love the ones that turn a solid pale gold as the season goes on-they really brighten up my green areas

Those all sound wonderful oursteelers....... I also love the yellows.....I have Munchin Fire, Marilyn, Giantland Elegance, Sum and Substance and some others. I also love First Blush but I am concerned that it may not retain its blushing...... do you have this one? I may also buy some more Mouse Ears.

Steve, where are you getting your hosta from?

debra, I thought about getting First Blush too but had the same concerns as you. Are there particular members of the Mouse family you are looking for?

I had to move First Blush (and others) into more direct sunlight as that helps them blush. Still afternoon shade but plenty of sun before that. I've ordered from Naylor Creek, In the Country and Uniquely Hostas this year.

I’ve ordered from Naylor before, I’ll go check out In the Country and Uniquely Hostas

Well that was a bad idea....😂

    So what did you order?

    I ordered:

    Cup of Grace

    Eye Declare

    Lemontini

    Flemish Angel

    Frosted Dimples

    Golden Meadows

    Mourning Dove

    Beyond Glory

    Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

Have you ordered from them before? Do they send nice size plants or are they on the smaller side?

Nice selection. I almost ordered Cup of Grace. Not huge size, but nothing to complain about. It depends on the variety. Plus they have stuff no else does. Here's a couple I bought in spring 2019.

    Dawes - 6/13/19

    Olympic Gold Medal - 7/22/2019

Good sized eyes, but I remember this Banana Boat's roots seemed a little short. I needed to tie them up which isn't unusual except for the best sellers' plants that hardly seem to suffer from shipping at all. It seemed to recover just fine the next year.

(Yes, any excuse to post pics)

I really really like that Dawes!

Not sure why I didn't get more pics of it as I really like it too. Here it is on 7/22/2019

I've had in mind the past few years to start a collection of 10-12 different varieties of Mouse Ears in a special planter. Maybe next spring will be the year. Oh yeah and I do need to replace a favorite, Remember Me that the rabbits got again.

Old dirt that would be really cute. I really like the mouse family

You do know that many of the mouse ears have a tendency to revert, right?

steve No I didn't know, I guess I should do a little more investigation. Maybe just go with various very small assorted varieties. Thank you

Oursteelers, I will be looking for MEs that I don’t have. I have Frosted ME, Blue ME, Mighty ME, Giantland Sunny ME, Church ME, Church M, Miniskirt, Holy ME, Mouse Trap, and Snow ME.

I will be looking soon and will keep you posted!

Seems like I remember a Hosta Journal article on which ones were more stable than others, but I couldn't find it.

Debra, for some reason I didn’t connect that Miniskirt was part of the family. I really like that one- for a mini it’s been quite vigorous and has such a distinctive look. Sometimes Blue Mouse Ears can get a bit ho hum for me, probably since it’s one of my easiest so I don’t appreciate it as much. If I put a miniskirt next to a clump voila! all is better!

From my experience Frosted Mouse Ears has been very stable over the years. Holy Mouse Ears has had some reversion. I have grown both of these for many years. Too early to tell if Mini Skirt or Mighty Mouse will be as stable as FME. I would think the medio-variegated would have more of a tendency to revert.

So far, I have ordered no new hostas, but who are we kidding?

My favorite large yellows in my garden are Solar Flare, Krugerrand, and Diva; favorite medium/smalls are Mango Salsa, May, Chorus Girl and Lemontini. The yellow minis Sun Mouse and Lemon Kiss are nice. I acquired Valley's Lemon Squash and Avent's Apple Pie late in the season this year, and they were fabulous!

Krugerrand is one I’ve been wanting for a few seasons and yet somehow I still don’t have one. Maybe this will be the year!

Krugerrand is simple, tall, and sturdy with gorgeous color. It is brighter than S&S and taller, without stem blight.

I recommend Lime Ripple, lutescent, rippled, corrugated, fast growing. It out-performed Dancing Queen for me this year. World Cup is a win, too.

I have been waiting on giantland Yellowstone to be available ever since they posted a photo last summer. It’s finally available and ordered!
