I have vinyl plank and fouund it much less off gassing than carpet. We have the kind the one plank sticks to the next one and if you have a flood it can all be rolled up dried and laid back down it is Allure from HD. IMO tile is no more biodegradable it just goes to the dump and will be found yrs from now looking eactly how it did when you took it to the dump.We don’t have the flood issue so we did our Allure on dricore sub floor to make our basement floors feel a bit warmer . We have 3 huge dogs that access a dog run with a doggie door all day in all kinds of wether at the end of the day we swiffer and if muddy we damp mop looks like new 13 yrs later.

Tile doesn't biodegrade because it's made from clay. Broken tiles, just like brick and concrete, are considered clean fill and are used in construction. The last home I built, I speced re-cycled fill around the foundation because of its excellent drainage.
