I have an 8-year old Speed Queen Top Loader. It's been great up until now. I was doing laundry and the machine would not spin or drain. I called for repair and drained the machine manually. The repair man was here today and turned the dial from regular cycle to delicate and was able to get the machine to spin. He then turned it back to regular and it worked there, too. He said that my motor had locked up, but that it was on its way out and would need to be replaced to the tune of $500! I expected the motor in this top-of-the-line machine to last much longer than 8 years. Does his diagnosis sound correct? Anything else I should consider? Is it possible that a locked motor could repair itself and my problem is solved? The machine was working when he left.
