I really like the way that the mantle ties in with your beams on the ceiling. The metal surround makes the fireplace look outdated, so you may want to replace that. Overall, your fireplace looks nice, just plain. Consider adding some plants or artwork on the mantel. This will give it character and catch your eye. The fireplace should be the first thing someone sees when they walk into a living room. Personalize it the way you love it and it will look great!

I totally agree with the above comment. I like the wood mantle I wouldn't get rid of that but have a different idea. I suggest updating the metal surround and having a white brick going up to the ceiling. I think it will make the fireplace stand out more and then you can add back a wood mantle to that similar color over top of the brick and add a tv or art on the mantle. I'll post some pictures of what I'm thinking.

I prefer to see shiplap there than adding brick a whole way up. I also don’t think it will be simple to add brick because if you can see they are either structural and are in the Sheetrock if that makes sense or are faux bricks that are flat which is unlikely. I might lower the mantle after adding shiplap or whatever. But looks great!!

Add some frames, candles, flowers... after lowering it btw. It’ll look awesome
