auctions are usually done with active plants.. rather than dormant ...

it is nice to actually see the plant you will get .. unless you know the seller well ...

so it doesnt surprise me that the auction is inactive this time of year ...

i believe the auctions started in relation to the ahs ... a fundraiser for some reason or another .... are you a member??

I can understand why there are no plants at this time. Someone mentioned that “Rob” had a particular hosta on the auction so I got curious to see how it works. Is there a particular time the auction start? Late spring maybe?

I have not kept up with the auctions in the last few years. I think participation has tapered off. If I remember correctly, the auctions have been few and far between in the last few years. Of course, maybe I just looked at the wrong time.

The Hosta Library used to have them in January. You bid on hostas and the seller would send them to you at an agreed date when they were ready to ship. They would say the name of the hosta with a photo and how many eyes/divisions you would get. Later in the year at a 2nd auction, they would post a photo of the actual plant you bought and ship it to you right away. You would make your own arrangements with the seller. Those gave no proceeds to the HL. It was offered as a courtesy to link buyers and sellers.

There also were the AHS auctions where you had a bidding time frame for some of the newest and bestest hostas. Some bids went over $1,000. There were time limits and all sorts of excitement. People had pseudonyms for names and we were all curious about who got that "one of a kind, not to be reproduced" hosta. I remember staying up until midnight EST with my finger on the bid button. Those did raise $$ $ for the HL.

Also the First Look Auctions. Last one 2017????

Haven't seen links to Library auctions in a few years. SAD. This used to be fun.
