Except for the table and chairs, everything else is dark and heavy. Painting the room white isn’t going to lighten it. You want to brighten the room. Choose the green of the rug. And get a new ceiling light.

White will look dirty in that underlit room. Please add more lighting and use daylight type light bulbs, to take away the dark, dull look in the room. Use some color for pillows and accessories, so it becomes a happy room to be in. The rug could be bolder, like the one in Judy G picture. The one you have doesnt seem to do anything for the room. Its a family room, so pictures on wall, should be brighter and happier. The one I can see over the couch, is a bit overpowering.
