Here is our before and after. Any other suggestions for curb appeal?

After studying the pictures, it looks like you added shutters, painted the front door in the shutter color for more contrast, and added some nice landscaping. You have an inviting pair of chairs on the front porch and something else at the top of the stairs on teh left, but I can't quite make out whether it's a potted plant. Is there a small table by the two chairs - a place to put down a glass of lemonade or cup of tea? Did you change the garage door color as well?
You have a long driveway, so where the garden on the curve to the garage adds quite a bit of interest, and the little bench nearby creates a small garden room there, now you may want to think about the drive up to this point. What does it look like at the end of the drive, and is there a spot on the right side of the driveway that could have a small accent , in terms of plantings and perhaps something sculptural. That way someone coming to the home might turn in the drive, notice ahead the garden on the right, then a little farther on to their left to the small garden "island" near the curve, and then their eye would move to the seating area by the front door.
I'm not a landscape designer, but I like to garden, and I do occasionally stage homes for resale.

Thank your for you feedback. Yes we did change the garage paint colour and painted eves. We added a lantern at the bottom of the driveway for light - it was really dark. The garden areas were difficult as all but the centre one is full shade. I too felt something was still missing but not sure what, I do not want it to be over done. Added a tree at the front and added a few large rocks and red muskoka chairs for colour. I will add a few more pics.

Keep in mind all planting is new this year so hopefully will fill pu a bit next year.

yes - You'll love it even more when mature. thanks for the additional photos. Perhaps some shade plants on the right of your driveway, or shade tolerant ones. I'm sure you have deer, so hosta is not a good choice, but perhaps lambs ear and forget me nots (green with tiny blue flowers) if they can take your weather extremes. The deer don't like plants with fuzzy leaves, so if you plant them together, it helps keep the deer off the forget me nots. Consider a ground cover at the base of the lantern, both to warm up the right side of the driveway, and not have to mow right up to the lantern. While the plants are maturing, you can always add in some potted annuals parked in the garden. You have a nice mix of textures, colors, heights, and greens, as well as rocks, so enjoy your space, and don't fret. It looks lovely. I'm an amateur gardener myself, but since I work in interior design I can appreciate what professionals do in the landscape.

I'd remove the shutters from the large window and put a window box or fountain below instead. Perhaps a tree in front of the blank garage wall, or arbor, or iron work. Great potted plants, love the red, perhaps combine the ideas into a tall red planter. Nice update. Enjoy!

Bright flowers and if you are daring enough u can paint it a lovely light blue white trim

can you move the tree under the garage window to the other side of the bed for more balance? in a few years that window will be hidden by the tree. also I'd paint the front door a brighter color. it is hard to see it now and the color will draw people towards it.

I can't move the tree. In deep shade under that window, but I know what you mean about balance. I like fountain idea. Hardscape for sure. We added rock but just did not give the drama needed. Thank you all !

You've done a great job with your choice of light fixtures and furniture. The big boulders are great too. You may have over planted in the front bed, but that's easy to fix as they grow. I don't really care for all the little plants under your beautiful Japanese Maple. That's a sculptural tree that can stand on it's own.

Wondering about covering the foundation for the brick wall at the porch, maybe a long low planter in front, or faux painting it to match the bricks. Also painting the downspout in front to match the bricks rather than the trim color. You can get it to disappear with the right color paint.

I'm sorry I don't like the black shutters on the big triple window. One typically only shutters single windows, that's why, the scale is just wrong. The rail is cutting it off too.

There are other more attractive things you could do with that beautiful window.

Love the use of red and black. A black pergola against the garage wall around the window but off center would look great.

Thanks for sharing it with us. The things I bring up are all little nit picky things, you've done a great job with the big stuff. Love it!

Thank for your feedback. Can you please explain the pergola. I don't understand where you mean.

I see what you mean about a window box, perhaps stone veneer under it to cover the brick ? Could only be fern types as no sun at all there.

HI -- Oh ! I remember you ,blondish1-- great job , beautiful house ! Everything looks very nice . Are you happy with it , and do you have more to do with your plans ?
I love what you did, the shutters and colors are very nice!

My only criticism is that for the size of your yard, you could have gone a lot larger in the sizes of your garden beds and had curves instead of straight lines. charlieben's pic is a beautiful example of what I mean by larger and curvy beds!

Hello Lefty! Yes I am getting there on the happy scale. I am still struggling a little with front balance. Trying to really mask a poor front porch design without major Reno. Wait till you see the backyard. Now that's a job.

Larger gardens were considered, but I am not much of a gardener so I was a little afraid to over do it.

Hi, only one more comment :) Whoops! I guess two! First, if you love it and it works for you, don't feel like you have to change it, add or subtract. All things in good time. You can always see how it feels to you now, wait a year, then do more if you want. Second, I always try to add white in my landscaping (daisies, cone flower, phlox, etc) as the white brightens up shady areas and can highlight areas as well. I would at some point add a little white by corner of the garage, in your island and down at the beginning of your driveway. This will "lift" the view from the road to the house, and says "Welcome."

The picture I posted was an example of the pergola over on the side of the garage facing the front.
I noticed that you don't have much coverage over your front door, so you could add a portico, but a less expensive alternative would be another pergola. I think they may be called arbors in other areas. You wouldn't have to attach it to your house. Don't know where you live, but guessing you don't get much snow or it would pile up on your front porch, but you can slope it and even cover it with sunbrella fabric, acrylite or bamboo a number of products and the cover can be installed so it's not seen from the front. You'll give guests a break from the weather. We don't use wood anymore here in California instead there's a prefabricated product that is NO maintenance. All kinds of sizes....

HI - blondish1 -- I am the same about gardening -- love planning them but hate working on them . The trick is to get it done so that it's not much work but it easy to keep looking nice . I do mass plantings of same plants and ground covers . I'm planting no-mow grass so my husband doesn't have to push the mower around -- not easy when you get older.
