Let’s talk stocking stuffers

Yes, I still do them for my two DD’s who are in their 30’s.

Looking for new ideas. They like beauty products, but looking for some cute games, puzzles to have fun with to add to the mix.

Please share!

I ordered a couple of these that Mtn suggested last year. They fall into my "active experience gifts" that I'm opting for this year. I just took a screen shot of a few, but they have loads of different themes.

ETA: Not sure if it's clear in the pic, but they are tiny (maybe 3"x3") tin boxes. Super cute.

Container Store has cute stocking stuffers.

Gals seem to be easier than guys, because jewelry, hair, cosmetics.

My 20s guys have gotten screen cleaning cloths, Penzeys spices and cocoas, little Lego set (yeah still!) candy, money. Yawn.

Among other things, we always put socks in our stockings. For the past 4 years, I’ve put a pair of DivvyUp socks in DD and DSIL’s stockings. Working on this year‘s today.

Here’s an example from the website

I’ve also gotten DSIL monogrammed socks from Nice Laundry. They are both cross-fit enthusiasts who like to wear compression socks. Comrade Socks has nice compression socks.

If anyone is getting a small, expensive gift, it traditionally goes in the toe of the stocking.

I thought of these for the guys in my family who may visit with friends outside. They are a gimmick but most stocking stuffers are.

Oh, Fun2BHere, the ear bud cleaning kit is a great idea for my young adult kids.

Stocking stuffers are always difficult for me, and I usually resort to gift cards and chocolate. A few of mine and their significant others wear birkenstocks and so I'm going to look for fun, warm socks. Last year, these were a hit. Anything cozy and lounge-y is still a good bet, IMO.

Nice, engraved brass tags for each of their dogs (I noticed their's are badly scratched these days). Brass Dog Tag

I ordered a case of four packages of spaghetti from Italy (Amazon). One will go in each stocking and we'll keep one.

    Spaghetti from Italy

A new battery-powered milk frother to replace an old one.

    Rearview Mirrors for their bikes

Handlebar or Wrist Mirror -haven't quite decided yet

    Bombas socks for DD

Alpaca cold weather socks for DS

I bought these for the guys (and an extra for me).

I get that sanitizer and face masks are a practical stocking stuffer, but I just can't do Covid gifts. Thinking about the snowflake tool, though. The Nordic Field and Stream socks were a big hit with all ages last year. I am tempted to do a repeat.

I thought Levenger curated an interesting list of stocking stuffers.. who doesn't need a panda screen cleaner, an einstein eraser and a pocket size copy of the Constitution! But don't limit yourself to just what they have gathered-- there are so many options throughout the site! I am getting the airfly to allow you to connect bluetooth headphones to a wired headphone jack.

My young adult kids recieve gifts via the mail from grandparents and Aunts and Uncles so I always stick a small box of thank you notes and stamps in their stockings. HINT HINT.

We do ridiculously big stockings. Our daughters are almost 25, but have said numerous times that stockings are the best part of Christmas. We open them, mimosas in hand, taking turns. We have always wrapped stocking stuffers and that adds to the time it takes to open them. Wrapping them is DH's job, since I do the majority of the shopping. Adding DD2's boyfriend to the mix this year, as his family is in Ontario and travel is off the table. I'm a bit stuck for him, but will look for the earbud cleaning kit. So far have a couple of bottles of Christmas Ale, some pens and sharpies and post-it notes, an ice scraper, macadamia nuts... Exciting, right? He is a type 1 diabetic so candy is not an option, though I'm going to check out Purdy's sugar free line. Our stockings lean toward practical and that is easy for my daughters; cotton pads, q-tips, dry shampoo... DH gets the snacks that he's not "allowed" the rest of the year, pepperoni, jerky, nuts, jujubes... the boyfriend is a basketball nut - any suggestions in that vein?

What great ideas. I think our Christmas and Hanukkah will be very different. These ideas will be fun to send and drop off !

Anyone have kid ideas? Ages 2 and up? I have grands, nieces and nephews and we have decided to be “low key”

Anne, I have younger kids in my family, too. Some of the ideas are yard games, firepit activities (smore's etc) depending upon age and climate. The focus is outside activities over the winter.

smores kit is a great idea for on of my kids, has stepkids and had been doing a lot of backyard camping and campfires to keep them occupied since they are doing virtual school and not able to play their sports. They made their Thanksgiving dinner over a campfire!

Jerky is good for a type 1. I know that the sodium is high.

Bison, elk and venison jerky are good and different if you eat wild game.

Maybe messy, but our Dollarama had packs of 20 little vials of different sparkles/glitter. I know that my girls would have loved those years ago.

Za'atar. A delicious spice mix from the Middle East. Terrific on French fries and pretty much anywhere else you look for savory flavor.

Ok, @bbstx ...those socks are amazing!!! I got 3 pairs just now (cyber Monday special) with our dogs on them for my kids!! They are going to love them! 😂

nekotish, before going the sugar free candy route, I would ask your daughter if her boyfriend eats candy. My daughter is a type 1 and she cannot have liquid sugar, so generally has to drink diet soda, sugar free syrup, etc, but she chooses to eat candy. She generally steers clear of super concentrated candy like fudge, but still enjoys her regular candy. Type 1 is definitely a different animal than type 2. For lower carb stocking stuffers, we have done salmon jerky or justin's nut butter packs (chocolate hazelnut being the favorite, but also the honey peanut butter, cashew, etc).

deegw, one year I put thank you notes in the kid's stockings. It was hilarious when my son who was about 8 at the time pulled them out. He was incredulous, and said "what is this doing in here?" He has no problems writing the notes, but felt that it was taking up valuable space in the stocking that should have gone to something else.

@nini804, I just completed my order too! I really only needed 2 pair, but the sale made the 3rd pair cost me only $6. DSIL is getting a pair of socks with hearts and DD’s picture on it!

I’ve threatened to buy him this t-shirt, but I went with sending him the picture instead. We give each other sass all the time!

However, this coffee mug is still in the running:

Ive shared this idea so many times.. but my family has enjoyed them so much, i decided to share again.

I give Flying Wish Papers each year at Christmas. I usually get the bigger ones but i bought quite a few of small ones this year to share with a wider range of friends... who doesn't need some extra good wishes this year?

The smaller size will fit into a stocking.. or can easily slip into package wrapping.

I give the larger size to each family pod

Thanks Tish. He manages his diabetes really well. He is a hardcore Diet Pepsi addict! My daughter bought him some sugar free peanut butter cups, which he loved. I'm going to put in his stocking; individual Balderson's cheddar, natural peanut butter, pepporoni, nuts and jerky (have to read the labels, as some jerky has crazy amounts of sugar.) He wears an insulin pump and checks his sugars regularly.

Funky, where do you buy the wish papers?

Daisy, i get them on amazon these days-- a local shop used to carry them but they shut down. Just search for "flying wish papers". It's such a simple thing-- but we really enjoy them.

Anne, some kid ideas could be bathtub crayons, for older kids the Mr.Sketch scented markers, play-doh and tools (my kids always loved the rolling pins, I have made some by cutting an art dowel and the scissors), or playsilks. For preschoolers, these flip crayons are great. They are forced to hold them the correct way to use them, developing good habits. Older kids may prefer sculpting clay and tools (I have seen them in the craft section of Wal-Mart) and in the same section I have purchased fabric markers and items they can decorate, from a white pillow sham to a t-shirt, stuff sack, etc.

funky those are gorgeous. I must have these; this is the second time you turned me on to elephants!

My three are all full fledge adults. Doesn't change what they get. #1 an ornament--DH makes them now. #2 a crafty thing we can all do as we eat brunch before opening gifts, lego kits are most common. #3 candy- #4 something something; this year an assortment of spatulas DH's company made and the customer pulled out and left a palate. #5 whatever I collect over the year that I find they might find fun, different for each. It's a lot less stress to have a formula/tradition I have found. Happy St. Nicholas Day btw--many of what used to get put in their shoes now shows up in the Christmas stockings.
