Cleaning or Staining White Leatherette Eiffel Chairs

Hello!

My wife and I just purchased these lovely chairs second hand, but they were a bit dirty. They are Eiffel chairs, do not know the designer's name, but they were not cheap new. Italian leatherette, which looked almost identical to leather, but did not pass the sniff test.

Anyway, there are these yellow "stain" marks on the seat, and when we inspected it closer, we noted that it lined up with where there was glue on the inside. We tried many cleaning techniques, including: baking soda paste, Magic Eraser, acetone, bleach, and regular soap, to no avail.

We are asking for advice for:

a) Help clean it to make it look white again, or

b) Ideas on how to stain/paint leatherette chairs to a different colour.

The chair covers is velcored at the bottom, but cannot be easier removed as its glued at the seat.

(from the inside, where the glue is)

Thank you!!
