What if you add a chaise lounge or sitting area in front of the sliding glass door? Is the view nice? You could position the rug so it is closer to the front door, centered on the table. Maybe something like this?

You could then use throws and pillows to give you more flexibility to coordinate/complement the floor

I have a long hall and use two runners - easier and less expensive than finding one longer one! Good luck!

I have a 26 ft hallway, and finding a runner that long is impossible. So, I found carpet that I liked, had them cut two 3ft strips off the 12ft wide roll. Then, I had them sew those two pieces together end-to-end. That made my 24x3ft runner. They serged all four edges. Perfect!

Helpful ideas! I found a long runner but feel the space needs more. What kind of chair/seat can go next to it? I’m also thinking of a plant.

You could use two runners. Please center the rug between the walls, not between the table and the wall. Perhaps also a photo or picture gallery on the long wall.

Its all a bit skimpy in size and scale. Should have bought two of the runners; align with the door. Did you pick up any art? Adding any color? Did you see any good lighting sales? I think you could use some pretty fixtures. Here's some inspiration...

This is the introduction to your home. What impression do you want to make when someone enters your home?

What colors and types of art do you love, what is the general style of the rest of your home? Can you find a unique statement piece that will work in this space?

A free edge wooden console table or an antique sideboard are going to provide 2 very different feelings.

Adding art to the walls and sculpture or dishes or vases to the entry table will help define the space and the home.

Find pieces that speak to you.

I would look at carpet tiles so you can get the length you need. Check Flor.

Before deciding on a rug‘s style, length and width, I would decorate the hall with larger scale items, placed in the center of the long wall. Adding a lamp on console would be a good accessory to include. You may find you only need to add a rug in that area, or just at front door.

Based on the style of the accessories, then select a complimentary rug that works with your decor choices and it should be on the wider side, for better balance and proportions.

I received two rugs. I am leaning toward the one with cream and blue. Still shopping for art and need a tall plant and chair. Thought?

Can you get a second console same as the one you have so that it looks like one piece? Then get a wide art work about 2/3 of the length of the double console? I like the first of the two rugs, but it depends on palette of the room the hall leads to.

Look for a beautiful antique chair with a tall back, not too deep since the hall is narrow, to contrast with the hall table.

The scale of the items you are selecting for your Foyer is all off IMO. I think you should be working towards something that ends up more like this

Beverly, I looked and couldn’t find wider rugs. Biggest was 3 feet, which was better then my original 2.5 feet. Do you have ideas where to get a wider rug, with an easy return policy? I’ve been looking at stores that have a storefront so I can return if I don’t like without going to through return shipping. Thanks and appreciate it!

Sometimes it takes a while to find the right size runners. (actual kilim rugs stores are a good source for wider runners, but they could be pricey) but you can always have them cut from a broadloom carpet or a remnant and have the edges serged, or Albert and Dash will provide you with a custom size,

This IKEA rug is 8 ' 2 "x11 ' 6 " As you can see it is cotton and has a rolled edge/hem. You can have it cut to size, have the raw edge rolled and stitched and make it the size your require.

The scale is off. You need something with more visual weight. I would look into a "bridge table" or "c-shape console table" that is around 62" long. Place it centered on the long wall. I would also add a large plant to sit to the right of the table.

Then, decorate accordingly with either a large mirror or piece of art above (low and centered). A plant/vase, sculptural piece, a ceramic piece, a lamp, or even some books.

@GLO... do you suggest a certain wood color to go with my floors? They have a slight gray color to them.

These are various wood items I have around the house. There are no other wood items as I’m working on new furniture slowly. I just have my dining table which I am keeping but looking to change chairs.

Your instinct was right to select a dark gray/black for the foyer. Foyers IMO should be dramatic. As was mentioned your selection of scale is all off. That foyer can handle a much larger table.

This one is only 64" from Ashley Furniture. (I have no idea what your budget might be) but the weight of the table is better for this space. The table is $411

Rather than trying to find or have a custom runner that is wide enough, if you added a more substantial console centered in hall, then you could center a rug Vs using a runner

Try Wayfair and oftentimes rugs are available in different sizes. Measure and tape out 4x6 or 8 or 5x7 for example. Easy Returns

I really like the idea of the whitewashed wood or the grey/dark charcoal options Beverly posted above. I wouldn't go with a true wood-tone since it might clash with the cool tones of your floor.

Hi all! I got my FLOR tile rug this past week and put it together. I also got art. I don’t like the art since the frame is silver. It’s a bit better in LA, so I’m going to check out Home Goods this weekend. I definitely need help with console styling and looking to get a bench. I picked up chairs but didn’t like them, they intruded into the walkway too much.

I know it was suggested to get another table but I can’t at the moment so I’m trying to make do but am open to purchasing another same one down the line to put side by side. I also though with a bench next to it, it’ll work as well as far as giving it length.

Any ideas?

That looks so nice! What type of floors do you have? (Wood or LVT?) Is the rug backing safe/will not cause discoloration for the floor? I checked the FLOR website and couldn't find a definite answer

Teri.. they are LVP (vinyl planks). Not sure if it will cause discoloration (hope not). I didn’t think about it but needed to find a rug that was an abnormal size. I have to contact them since two tiles had stains so I can ask them. They do say not to use a rug pad so the tile is not sticky but stays put. Will let you know!

Thanks Nuppal! We are having LVP installed soon. Yours looks great!! 😊 From what I have been reading, rug "pads" can cause discoloration so maybe that's why they recommend no pad. Good to know!

I got two types of seats for the front area. We have kids and grandparents that come over regularly and need a spot near the front for shoes. Which one do you all like? I am leaning toward the wood bench and adding a white/black pillow on it where it meets the table. Then a tallish plant on other side. Thoughts? Am I headed in correct direction?
